We applaud Mr Goh Teck Soon for promoting xiangqi in the community and initiating the first friendly match between the North and East Zone Xiangqi Clubs. We also thank the residents’ community for providing a space where players can meet on weekends—not only to sharpen their minds through xiangqi, but also to build friendships and strengthen social connections among seniors.

“A Brief Overview of the Origins of Xiangqi and Its Development in Asia”
Honoured to join so many Xiangqi enthusiasts today for an insightful and inspiring sharing by Mr Lim Kwan How.
From the origins of the word “象” in Xiangqi to the stories behind the different characters used on the chess pieces, I came away with a deeper appreciation of the history and culture behind the game.
Xiangqi is more than winning and losing — it carries history, wisdom and culture. Glad to learn together, appreciate its beauty, and continue passing this rich tradition on.
To facilitate a media interview, the SIXGA clubhouse will be closed to members and the public on Saturday, 12 September 2026, from 2.00 pm to 5.30 pm. Normal opening will resume after 5.30 pm.
Previously arranged lessons may continue as usual, and the respective coaches and students may enter the clubhouse for their lessons.

2026 World Xiangqi Tournament Series to be Held in Singapore from 10–15 November
The Singapore Xiangqi General Association (SIXGA) is honoured to co-host the 2026 World Xiangqi Tournament Series with the World Xiangqi Federation (WXF), to be held in Singapore from 10 to 15 November 2026.
The official event website is now live. International players and guests may visit the website for tournament information, registration, accommodation details and other important updates.
The tournament series features three prestigious world events, including the 5th World Xiangqi Open Tournament, which has traditionally been held in Europe. Its debut in Singapore marks a significant milestone for both the tournament and the continued development of Xiangqi in Singapore.
We look forward to welcoming players, arbiters, officials and guests from around the world to Singapore for an exciting week of world-class competition, friendship and cultural exchange, as we celebrate and advance the global development of Xiangqi together.
On 17 August 2026, the Singapore Xiangqi General Association (SIXGA) and Asian Mind Sports Association (AMSA) signed two strategic cooperation agreements to advance the development of Xiangqi in the new era, including an MOU to jointly promote and co-host the upcoming World Xiangqi Tournament Series in Singapore this November.
Together, we hope to open new possibilities for Xiangqi, inspire the next generation, and bring the mind sport to greater heights in Singapore and beyond.

A Brief Overview of the Origins of Xiangqi and Its Development in Asia
Xiangqi, or Chinese Chess, is more than a game of strategy and intellect. With a long history rooted in Chinese culture, it has evolved and spread across Asia, becoming an important part of the region’s traditional board-game culture.
The Singapore Xiangqi General Association (SIXGA) is pleased to present a special talk:
“A Brief Overview of the Origins of Xiangqi and Its Development in Asia”
The talk will be delivered by Mr Lim Kwan How, Permanent Honorary President of the Singapore Xiangqi General Association, on 29 August 2026 (Saturday), from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
Mr Lin has been actively involved in the development and promotion of Xiangqi in Singapore. In this talk, he will share an overview of the origins and historical development of Xiangqi, as well as its spread across Asia and the development of the Xiangqi movement in the region.

Today, we had the pleasure of having Master Allen Choo share two of his memorable games, offering valuable insights into the strategies and thought processes behind them.
Master Choo is one of Singapore’s leading xiangqi players and has represented Singapore in international competitions. He is also a highly respected and well-known figure within the local xiangqi community.
The talk was very well received, with lively discussions and enthusiastic participation from the audience.
To conclude the session, our Honorary Life President, Mr Lim Kwan How, presented Master Choo with a specially prepared gift in recognition of his outstanding xiangqi skills, achievements, and contributions to the game.
